Pastor, she/her/hers
In June of 2021, High Street Congregational Church called Pastor Debbie to be our teacher and pastor. Debbie earned her Master of Divinity from Andover Newton Theological School and is an ordained pastor in the United Church of Christ. Debbie completed her clinical pastoral education training as Chaplain Intern of Spiritual Care at Hebrew Senior Life of Boston.
Debbie grew up in the Methodist faith and found her way to the UCC as a parent with young children. She enjoyed many years of lay ministry in the two UCC churches that she belonged to. Before arriving at HSCC, Debbie served as a pastoral resident in the Urban Pastoral Ministry Program at the Fourth Presbyterian Church of South Boston (www.fourthboston.org) and City Mission Boston (www.citymissionboston.org). She has a passion for working with the unhoused, those experiencing trauma, and those facing food insecurity.
Debbie currently serves as President of Star Island, Corp. (www.starisland.org) and is a Spiritual Advisor for Bates College. She has three wonderful adult children, five amazing grandchildren and one sweet dog. She enjoys hiking, CrossFit and spending time with friends and family. Debbie’s favorite place in the world is Weld, Maine where she has summered since childhood.
Office Admin & Family and Community Ministries Coordinator, he/him/his
Daniel grew up in Brewer Maine spending much of his childhood volunteering his time to make the world a better place with homeless shelters, March of Dimes, Habitat for Humanity and other organizations.
He studied Theology at New Brunswick Bible Institute where he began to concretely know that he wanted to help and love others as Jesus does. During his time at NBBI he was able to visit multiple countries for different mission trips and fell in love with our beautiful world.
After his years at Bible school he had the opportunity to move to New York City. Soon before COVID he moved back to Maine and “God led me to my wonderful and kind husband, Jay, who is a Kora Shriner and spends much of his time raising funds for children who spend far too much of their lives in hospitals.”
Organist, he/him/his
Our most excellent organist, Chip Ross, provides the pre-service music, support for our singing, and postludes that help make HSCC an incredible experience every week.
Choir director, she/her/hers
Like excellent choir directors everywhere, Ruth loves to hear all of us sing. If you would like to help round out the choir, regardless of your vocal range or ability, catch her after service sometime!
Caretaker extraordinaire, he/him/his
Bill is one of our “Jubilee Members”, meaning that he has been a member here for more than 50 years. Bill takes great care of our building and keeps us all smiling with his quick wit and gentle humor.
